Paperboy Ventures is an early-stage CPG investment platform that combines venture capital, talent acquisition, and media to connect the best founders with the capital and operators necessary for scale. Our professional networks and content platform allow access to top brands and executives in the space.
We’re building the talent arm of Paperboy and looking for a partner to lead the department.
About The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to join Paperboy Ventures as our first FT hire with full P&L and equity ownership.
You’ll lead the talent arm of the business: strategy, results, and growing the vertical over time. You’ll be working hand-in-hand with Kyle Fitzpatrick, founder & CEO.
What makes this different from any other talent role in CPG: You’re building a business within a business. This is a high-level role with real autonomy and an opportunity to shape strategy, grow the team, and share in the upside of everything Paperboy builds – funds, newsletters, podcast, social content, and events reaching thousands of CPG executives, operators, and investors. The relationships and community are here and growing by the day. Your job is to bring the talent side of the business to full fruition.
What You’ll Do
Revenue & Placements
Execute retained and contingency searches for C-suite, VP, and Director-level roles at early and mid-stage CPG companies
Manage the full search lifecycle: scoping roles with clients, sourcing and assessing candidates, guiding negotiations, and closing placements
Place candidates across key functions including Leadership, General Management, Sales / CRO, Marketing / CMO, and cross-functional Director-level positions
Drive revenue as the primary measure of success in year one
Client Development
Build and own the client pipeline across both Paperboy portfolio companies and non-portfolio CPG brands
Develop relationships with founders, CEOs, and boards
Position Paperboy as the go-to recruiting partner for high-growth consumer brands seeking top-notch talent
Strategy & Leadership
Own the P&L for the talent practice and be accountable for the business as a whole
Refine and evolve the strategic direction for how Paperboy approaches talent: service model, pricing, target clients, and go-to-market
Collaborate on the JOBS newsletter as a sourcing and brand-building channel
Lead the buildout of the talent team as demand is captured
Work async and remote, directly with the CEO
Who You Are
Experience & Network
10+ years of professional experience preferred, though we’ll make exceptions for candidates with deep domain expertise / strong networks
A strong, established network in CPG spanning C-suite executives, VP/Director level operators, founders, and investors across emerging and growth-stage brands
A proven track record of executive-level placements, whether from a search firm, in-house recruiting, or as an operator who built teams at the senior level
Deep fluency in commercial leadership roles: you understand what makes a great CEO, CRO, CMO, or VP in consumer
Mindset & Personality
Entrepreneurial and builder-minded. You’re energized by the idea of creating something from the ground-up and owning outcomes
Highly competitive and motivated by compensation. You believe you can out-earn a traditional role by executing as many quality placements as possible
Relationship-driven. People trust you, confide in you, and come to you when they’re thinking about their next move
Genuinely curious about CPG, business, entrepreneurship, and the consumer landscape.
Autonomous, resourceful, and an excellent communicator. You thrive working async and remote without anyone looking over your shoulder.
Nice to Haves
Comfortable on camera and creating content (LinkedIn, podcasts, etc)
Existing personal brand or public presence in the CPG space
Experience as an operator in consumer who understands the roles from the inside
Compensation
Base salary, commission, and equity in Paperboy Ventures. This is a partner-level role and the compensation structure reflects that. We’ll build a package based on fit and mutual alignment using those three levers for the right candidate.
